Conference and Workshop 2015

PPIM1410 (1)

IFA 1st Conference

The IFA 1st Conference is in line with IFA’s missions: (1) to escalate Indonesian finance scholars’ contributions in international academic landscape; and (2) to participate in improving financial literacy and financial policies in Indonesia. IFA itself is established through the cooperation and hard work of so many people involved. Before IFA, many Indonesian finance scholars have worked together sporadically. As time goes by, many scholars realize that we need to organize ourselves nationally, so that we are able to contribute better to academic and finance society.

The first serious discussion about instituting IFA actually happened in June 2014 during the Asian Finance Association conference in Bali. While attending the Asian conference, some Indonesian scholars agreed to conduct series of meetings to formalize IFA. The first meeting was on 11 July 2014 in Jogjakarta, followed by other meetings which lead to this inaugural conference. Although IFA was initiated by scholars, we must emphasize that IFA is not exclusively for finance academics. Hence, we currently have advisors, executives, and board members who are affiliated with Financial Services Authority (OJK), Bank Indonesia, and Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS). In the future, we hope to expand our members to represent all finance stakeholders in Indonesia.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all supporters of IFA. Although we will not be able to mention all of them, we would like to mention some of them.

We begin with Prof. Eduardus Tandelilin a distinguished finance professor from Universitas Gadjah Mada, who has “glued” us together until we are able to launch IFA. Prof. Ravik Karsidi, the Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret, together with Dr. Wisnu Untoro and Dr. Muhammad Agung Prabowo, the Dean and Vice Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sebelas Maret, who have arranged to host this very important event. Mr. Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, CEO of Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation, who has approved to sponsor and to address this conference. Prof. Ari Kuncoro, the Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Indonesia; and Mrs. Friderica Widyasari Dewi, Director of the Indonesia Stock Exchange; who are true supporters of IFA and have agreed to share their thoughts during Gala Dinner.

We would also like to acknowledge Dr. Agusman, a distinguished scholar from Bank Indonesia; and Prof. S. Ghon Rhee, editor of Pacific Basin Finance Journal and President of Asian Finance Association, who agree to share their experiences to publish in reputable international academic journals. Prof. Chu Zhang, a distinguished finance professor from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, for his willingness to come to this conference to share his research ideas. Finally, we would like to express our greatest appreciation to conference participants, reviewers, and conference organizing committee lead by Dr. Irwan Trinugroho. We hope all of us will have a very pleasant and fruitful conference.

Warm regards,

Dr. Irwan Adi Ekaputra

President of Indonesian Finance Association
